Urgent Dentistry Summer School

Students will learn the fundamentals of managing medical emergencies in the dental practice. The session will focus on recognizing urgent conditions, performing an initial patient assessment, identifying important signs and symptoms, and understanding the appropriate first response in an emergency situation.

The emphasis will be on patient safety, rapid assessment, effective communication and appropriate emergency management in the dental setting.

Students will become familiar with essential medications used in dental practice, particularly those that may be required in emergency situations. They will learn about their indications, the basic principles of their use, and the importance of correct preparation, dosage and patient assessment.

The session will also introduce students to the role of an emergency medication kit in the dental office and how these medications may be incorporated into emergency management.

Students will take part in practical simulations of emergency situations occurring in the dental chair.

Through realistic clinical scenarios, they will practice how to recognize an emergency, assess the patient, identify the most important clinical signs, communicate with the patient and dental team, and provide an appropriate initial response.

The workshop encourages students to work as a team and develop clinical decision-making, communication and emergency-response skills in a controlled environment.

The afternoon program focuses on suturing and the management of bleeding in dental practice.

Students will learn the basic principles of wound management, bleeding control and suturing following dental procedures. The session will cover different aspects of wound assessment, tissue management, appropriate suturing approaches and the prevention and management of potential complications.

Students will then apply the theoretical knowledge through a supervised practical suturing workshop.

They will have the opportunity to practice handling dental instruments, basic suturing techniques, proper suture placement, knot tying and wound approximation. Instructors will guide students throughout the workshop and provide feedback to help them improve their precision, coordination and clinical technique.

Students will learn the basic principles of dental radiology, including the different types of dental radiographs, their clinical indications and the importance of proper image quality.

The session will focus on:

• understanding the principles of dental imaging;
• recognizing different types of dental radiographs;
• selecting the appropriate radiographic examination for different clinical situations;
• understanding the basic principles of image quality and radiation protection;
• developing a systematic approach to interpreting dental radiographs.

Students will also learn how radiographic findings can support clinical diagnosis and treatment planning.

Students will develop a systematic approach to describing and analyzing dental radiographs.

They will learn how to examine an image step by step, identify normal anatomical structures and recognize common pathological findings. Particular attention will be given to describing radiographic findings clearly and using appropriate dental terminology.

This session will help students develop a more structured approach to radiographic interpretation and clinical reasoning.

Students will put their theoretical knowledge into practice through a practical workshop focused on panoramic radiography (OPG).

During the workshop, students will practice:

• identifying important anatomical structures on panoramic images;
• assessing the teeth and surrounding structures;
• recognizing common radiographic abnormalities;
• describing radiographic findings systematically;
• connecting radiographic findings with possible clinical conditions.

The practical format will allow students to discuss and interpret images under the guidance of experienced instructors.

Students will be introduced to Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) and its applications in modern dentistry.

The session will cover the fundamentals of CBCT, including its indications and clinical applications in areas such as implant dentistry, endodontics, oral surgery and the assessment of complex anatomical structures.

Students will learn when CBCT may provide additional diagnostic information compared with conventional two-dimensional imaging and how three-dimensional imaging can contribute to more accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.

Students will gain practical experience in interpreting three-dimensional CBCT images.

They will learn how to navigate through different image planes, identify anatomical structures and analyze clinically relevant findings. The workshop will focus on developing spatial understanding and the ability to interpret three-dimensional anatomy in a clinical context.

Students will also practice describing CBCT findings and relating them to potential treatment decisions.

Artificial Intelligence in dentistry.

Students will learn the fundamentals of emergency endodontic management and the materials commonly used in urgent dental situations.

The session will cover:

• recognizing common endodontic emergencies;
• understanding the causes and clinical presentation of acute dental pain;
• initial assessment and emergency management;
• principles of managing patients presenting with acute endodontic symptoms;
• an overview of materials used in emergency endodontic procedures;
• understanding the appropriate selection and application of dental materials.

The emphasis will be on developing a structured approach to patients who present with acute pain and endodontic emergencies.

Students will be introduced to the fundamental principles of direct restorative dentistry.

The session will focus on the principles of direct restorations, including:

• assessment and treatment planning;
• cavity preparation principles;
• selection and handling of restorative materials;
• principles of adhesion;
• restoration of tooth anatomy and function;
• achieving appropriate aesthetics and clinical longevity.

Students will gain a better understanding of how restorative procedures are planned and performed in everyday clinical practice.

Students will participate in a practical workshop focused on root canal treatment.

Under supervision, they will have the opportunity to practice the fundamental steps involved in endodontic treatment, including:

• understanding access and canal anatomy;
• basic canal preparation principles;
• working with endodontic instruments;
• developing appropriate working techniques;
• understanding irrigation and canal disinfection;
• principles of canal shaping and preparation.

The workshop is designed to improve students’ manual skills, precision and understanding of the endodontic treatment sequence.

The final practical workshop focuses on direct restorative treatment in an interactive and engaging format.
